Derek Jeter’s 2,999th Hit Assisted By Home-Plate Umpire Jim Wolf

We've reached the point where many people just want Derek Jeter to get his 3,000th hit out of the way so we can move on to actual baseball games. Based on this, it appears that group includes home-plate umpire Jim Wolf. Jeter got his 2,999th hit on a ground ball between third base and shortstop in the first inning against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday, and it came thanks to Wolf's very tight strike zone.

↵As this photo proves, there was one ball called that was clearly a strike and another that could very easily have been a strike. A few foul balls later, Jeter got his hit. He might want to save that ball and give it to Wolf as thanks for helping him out.

↵Then again, seeing as how so many people just want Jeter to get this thing over with already, Wolf may have been doing us all a favor.
