Jair Jurrjens is batting eighth for the Braves tonight.
All This, For Biff Constanza?
↵This is notable because a) Jurrjens is a pitcher, and ii) it’s apparently been a long, long, long time since a Braves pitcher has opened a game anywhere except the ninth spot in the batting order.
↵How long? Apparently this earlier report was inaccurate (i.e. wrong). So everybody’s still digging. We’ll keep you posted.
↵Update: Now they’re saying the last Braves pitcher to open a game in eighth slot was knuckleballer Jim Tobin, the only pitcher in MLB history to hit three home runs in one game (against the Cubs, naturally).
