Chiefs Sign DE Wallace Gilberry To New Contract

The Kansas City Chiefs signed restricted free agent defensive end Wallace Gilberry to a contract on Sunday.

Gilberry has played in 37 games -- two starts -- in three seasons with the Chiefs. He posted 43 tackles -- 34 solo -- 11 1/2 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Whether he’s a candidate for a long-term contract will be one of the interesting story lines to follow moving forward.

The 6-foot-2, 268-pound Gilberry broke into the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the New York Giants in 2008.

Gilberry is one of four restricted free agents for the Chiefs. FB Mike Cox signed his tender so he's in for 2011 and we're waiting on CB Brandon Carr and OT Barry Richardson to sign their tenders. Carr was tendered at the first round level and Richardson at the second round level.
