Hanley Ramirez Injury: Marlins Shortstop Hits DL With Shoulder Sprain

When Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez injured his shoulder diving for a pop-up, he looked badly injured, and the fear was that he'd have to go on the disabled list. When Hanley came away diagnosed with a simple shoulder sprain, those fears were alleviated, and he was thought to be day-to-day. Well, now let's split those down the middle:

Florida Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez was placed on the disabled list with a sprained left shoulder.

Ramirez is not badly hurt, but he is going on the DL. He hasn’t gotten into the lineup since injuring himself on August 2, and now the Marlins have decided to give him extra time to heal up so that they can play with a full roster again. It’s kind of annoying to play with a 25-man roster when one of the 25 is unavailable for several days in a row.

Ramirez's stint is retroactive to August 3, so he's eligible to return in just over a week. Emilio Bonifacio will continue manning short in his absence. As it happens, the Marlins haven't won since Ramirez got hurt.
