The ongoing concern of Ron Artest's stewardship of British domestic basketball is now focusing on whether the team interesting in procuring Mr. Artest's services -- that would be the Chester-based club known colloquially as the Cheshire Jets -- can pay the Los Angeles Lakers forward. Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports that Cheshire may lack the fiduciary wherewithal to fund Mr. Artest's British adventure, therefore requiring the procurement of additional funding.
Ron Artest Deal With Cheshire Jets Could Require Soap Opera Work In England
This is where British soap operas come in.
“You’ll appreciate that we haven’t got the means to entice someone of Ron’s standing on financial grounds,” [Jets director [Peter] Hawkins said. “Our commitment is to help raise Ron’s profile in the UK in order to help him develop his music and movie career over here while playing basketball.”
One possibility, according to a source with knowledge of the Jets’ plans, is trying to find Artest a role on a British soap opera.
One can only imagine the droll situations English comedy writers could place a ham like Mr. Artest in. If this also results in Andray Blatche winning a role in a telenovela to fund a career south of the border, let us rejoice in mirth.
