Ron Artest’s Official Name Change To Metta World Peace Coincides With Another New Number

Ron Artest is what one might call a rather "eccentric" person. In that light, it really shouldn't be all that surprising that with his name change to Metta World Peace becoming official on Friday, the Los Angeles Lakers wing will also debut a new number.

That new number -- 70 -- has an interesting significance, according to Mr. World Peace’s comments to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

“I’m changing it to 70 because it’s like something to do with the universe,” Artest said. “Everything kind of repeats itself. The universe is one. It’s the same thing. Healthy minds, just keeping the kids positive.”

So it has something to do with the universe because it repeats itself and keeps the kids positive, apparently? And that’s something that his former numbers -- 15, 23, 91, 93, 96, 37 and 15, again -- didn’t do, I guess?

Regardless, his name and number change -- however random -- Artest is doing it for the right reasons.

“It’s about love, world peace. Everybody can relate to that, whether it’s in the same community or the same state or the same country or whether it’s a country going to war,” Artest told Yahoo! “It’s about world peace. You know what I mean? The kids need to know that, and they know that now.”

Never change, Ron Ron Metta World Peace (unless it has to do with another number that promotes world peace to the kids, of course).
