So much for that big European payday. Ron Artest told Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Times that he expects to make $1,500-2,500 per month to play for the Cheshire Jets of the British Baskebtall League, or roughly what a full-time worker earning between $9.37 and $15.60 per hour makes before taxes.
Ron Artest Says He’ll Make $2,500 Per Month In Great Britain
In the interview, Artest -- who is legally changing his name to Metta World Peace -- told Medina that he will “definitely” play for the Chester-based club, but that he won’t join the team until more than a month into their season due to exhibition obligations with (yes) a Finnish team in September.
Artest said he asked himself one question: “I thought, ‘Where can I go to play ball and enjoy myself’”
A report earlier this week from ESPN quoted the management of the Jets as looking for ways to pad Artest’s salary through TV work in the United Kingdom.
