It’s West Brom 1-1 Manchester United in the midlands, as Shane Long scored on his debut, cancelling out Wayne Rooney’s opener to equalise for the Baggies, with David De Gea unable to keep out the Irishman’s low drive.
West Brom Vs. Manchester United: 1-1 At The Hawthorns
The young Spaniard looked very shaky towards the end of the half, and after being too slow to react to Long’s shot, he then struggled with a routine cross from Chris Brunt before letting the Northern Irishman shoot at goal shortly afterwards.
United had started extremely strongly, with Wayne Rooney scoring the opener after his deft touch released Ashley Young down the left wing, and he collected the return to turn and slide a precise shot into Ben Foster’s bottom corner. Afterwards, United continued to dominate, with Nani guilty of squandering a great chance to double United’s advantage, casually curling over the bar from close range.
Indeed, the Portuguese winger was presented with a chance to make amends, but was again wasteful as he volleyed over the bar from close range with Baggies’ keeper Ben Foster stranded.
Overall, United have been by far the more creative side, but West Brom may take advantage of De Gea’s nerviness, particularly if it proves contagious among United’s back four.
