As predicted here for several days leading up to the Watkins Glen race, rain has delayed today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series action in upstate New York.
NASCAR Watkins Glen Race Delayed By Rain; With No Rain Tires, Start Time Unknown
The rain doesn’t appear to be leaving any time soon, so NASCAR is either looking at a very late afternoon start time or the possibility of a Monday race.
And to answer a commonly asked question: No, there are no rain tires in the Sprint Cup Series. Goodyear has rain tires that have been used for the Nationwide Series, but NASCAR officials have never indicated a willingness to try them in Cup.
It would probably make for an entertaining and exciting show – and it’ll likely happen someday – but it’s not a reality for now.
