Dan Uggla's 33-game hitting streak is over after the Atlanta Braves' second baseman went 0-3 with a sacrifice fly in the team's 6-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs. This will make a lot of Braves' fans sad, because it looked like Uggla may have had a legitimate chance to advance even further beyond 33 games. Instead, Darwin Barney had other ideas.
Dan Uggla’s Hitting Streak Ends, Thanks To Darwin Barney
In the fifth inning, Uggla stepped to the plate and lofted a fly ball down the right-field line. It looked like it would drop for a hit. Instead, Barney, as pictured, snagged the ball out of the air.
Video of the play is here, and it shows the difficulty of Barney’s play. Truth be told, the right fielder probably should have gotten that ball. Instead, Barney ran a really, really long way to eventually catch the ball. If anything, Barney was kind of left out to dry there. For him to make the play anyway is pretty impressive.
