NASCAR Watkins Glen International Weather Forecast: Will Rain Cause Problems Again?

I can’t make any promises or guarantees when it comes to the weather forecast. The forecast for Monday is more complicated than it was for Sunday. Unlike Sunday, when we had a large wave of rain move into the area, the threat on Monday is from more scattered to isolated showers and storms.

I applaud NASCAR for making the decision to start the race Monday morning at 10 a.m. instead of waiting until the afternoon. The morning appears to be the best time with the lowest threat of rain for the whole day, but there is still a chance for isolated to scattered showers through the morning. The best chance for numerous showers and possible storms is in the afternoon.

Professionally, I truly feel that NASCAR gets this race not only started but makes it official by getting to and maybe even past halfway. All I see from the computer models heading into Monday morning supports a mostly dry scenario with just isolated showers.

Worst case for the morning is one of those isolated cells forms and moves over the track so they have to delay or postpone until the afternoon. Once in the afternoon the threat of rain is much higher with numerous shower cells forming.

If we’re going to get this race in on Monday, it is scheduled in the best time slot. However if for some reason we don’t get the race official, Tuesday is drier with more sunshine.

MONDAY:
10:00 a.m EDT
Sprint Cup Race – Cloudy to mostly cloudy, slight chance of an isolated shower - temp: 67

TUESDAY (Possible reschedule date):
12:00 p.m EDT
Possible Rescheduled Sprint Cup Race – Mostly sunny skies - temp: 75
