Live NASCAR Watkins Glen Update: Kyle Busch Leads With 15 Laps Left, Marcos Ambrose Lurks

If Kyle Busch holds on to win today’s NASCAR race at Watkins Glen, he’s going to have to hold off some of the world’s best drivers.

Busch leads with 15 laps to go at the Glen, but Denny Hamlin’s hard hit into the wall with 25 laps to go has put Marcos Ambrose into second place.

Brad Keselowski remains third despite an injured ankle he sustained in road course testing two weeks ago. And Hamlin is lucky he didn’t suffer the same fate.

Entering Turn 1, Hamlin blew a tire and cut a brake line, which sent his car head-on into the tire barriers in a tremendous collision. Fortunately, Hamlin climbed from his car and was uninjured.

The caution allowed Ambrose and Juan Pablo Montoya to close the gap on Busch. The aforementioned drivers had been on a different pit strategy than Busch and Keselowski.

Earlier, Busch’s brother Kurt also blew a brake line and crashed into a tire barrier (in a different spot than Hamlin).

The top 10 with 15 laps to go:

  1. Kyle Busch
  2. Marcos Ambrose
  3. Brad Keselowski
  4. Martin Truex Jr.
  5. Juan Pablo Montoya
  6. Jimmie Johnson
  7. Tony Stewart
  8. Kevin Harvick
  9. Joey Logano
  10. Jeff Burton
