Delmon Young used to be a can't-miss prospect, as he was the first-overall pick of the 2003 MLB draft, and his scouting pedigree was in line with other consensus first-overall picks, like Justin Upton. But he was traded by the Tampa Bay Rays to the Minnesota Twins for Matt Garza. And now the Twins have traded him, this time to the Detroit Tigers for left-handed prospect Cole Nelson and a player to be named later.
Delmon Young Traded To Detroit Tigers For LHP Prospect

Young made it to the majors as a 20-year-old, and while his career OPS+ is an even 100, he's had only one really good season (2010). He hit .266/.305/.357 in 305 at-bats this year for the Twins, and his defense is ... exciting, but for all the wrong reasons. The Tigers have a full outfield with Brennan Boesch, Austin Jackson, and Magglio Ordoñez, but Boesch has a sprained thumb and Ordoñez is having a dreadful season. If Young starts, he'll likely replace Ordoñez more often than not.
Nelson was a 10th-round pick for the Tigers in 2010. He’s a 6’7” left-hander, and his professional career to this point has been mixed at best. There’s a lot of projection in him, but he’s a very, very raw prospect. It’s a sign of how far Delmon’s stock has fallen. Well, that and the fact that he was put on waivers and passed over by every rebuilding team in the American League.
