The NFL preseason schedule is meant to prepare teams for the season with the final result of the game ultimately being meaningless. Most teams say that, as long as they exit the game without any injuries, the preseason is a success. By that measure, the New York Jets failed on Monday Night Football against the Houston Texans.
Jets Vs. Texans: Rex Ryan Says Sacks Are ‘Ridiculous’
The Jets lost backup offensive lineman Robert Turner, who was starting in place of C Nick Mangold, to an ankle injury. That's bad enough.
But the Jets struggles continued in pass protection as they gave up seven sacks (making Jets fans very nervous while QB Mark Sanchez was in there). Rex Ryan wasn't too happy about that.
“Clearly, we’ve got a long way to go with our protections,” said head coach Rex Ryan. “We gotta figure this thing out because it’s ridiculous.”
Ridiculous indeed. The one thing you can’t do in preseason is leave a path in the middle of your offensive line to the quarterback. That’s an easy way to get someone, like the quarterback, injured. Luckily for the Jets, that wasn’t the case.
