It's hard to judge a trade after just a couple of weeks ... but things aren't looking so good for the San Francisco Giants and Carlos Beltran. From Andrew Baggarly of the Mercury News:

After days of waiting, Carlos Beltran will go on the DL today, I have learned. He’s eligible to return when the Giants open a homestand a week from today. Will he be ready then? Who the heck knows. I’m done predicting.

Miguel Tejada did not report to Double-A Richmond to start a rehab assignment. Instead, the Giants activated him.

So the Giants turned their top prospect into two weeks of an ineffective Carlos Beltran into Miguel Tejada. Magic! If Sabean starts riding a Segway to the banana stand, don’t say you weren’t warned.

Beltran hurt his right wrist after checking a swing against Roy Oswalt, and the Giants kept him day-to-day, hoping he'd improve with just a little rest. That didn't happen, so the Giants will take their time with their shiny old toy.

With Beltran out, there's a chance that Brandon Belt will play more left field, with Cody Ross and Aaron Rowand in center, and Nate Schierholtz in right. Of course, Ross and Rowand in left and center would sure give the Giants the comfortable veteran look that manager Bruce Bochy likes.

The Giants have scored 2.6 runs per game since Beltran’s arrival, going 6-12 in that span. Though Beltran wasn’t hitting a whole lot, the odds were good that he was going to get back to hitting like his old self. Without that hope, the Giants are even more hosed than usual.
