We hear of unusual baseball injuries all the time these days, along with medical terms like "subluxation". That's why it's almost refreshing -- though certainly not to Red Sox fans -- to learn that their DH David Ortiz is going to miss some time with bursitis:
David Ortiz Injury: Red Sox Slugger Has Bursitis

Ortiz, batting .300 with 24 home runs and 79 RBIs, was a late scratch from the opener Boston’s day-night double-header with Tampa Bay Tuesday with what was first called an illness. Later, it was announced he had bursitis and manager Terry Francona said after the second game his No. 5 hitter needs rest.
“He got an MRI and it showed the bursitis in his heel,” Francona said. “We’re going to get him out of his spikes for a couple of days, get him in a little bit of a walking boot, just to kind of alleviate some of the pressure.”For the moment, the Red Sox will not place Ortiz on the disabled list. In case you’re not familiar with bursitis -- or have heard of it but never knew quite what it meant -- here’s a definition from the National Institute of Health:
Bursitis is inflammation of the fluid-filled sac (bursa) that lies between a tendon and skin, or between a tendon and bone. The condition may be acute or chronic.Ouch. Sounds painful. For Ortiz’s -- and the Red Sox’ -- sake, here’s hoping it’s not chronic.
