Three Shall Be The Number Of The Counting

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Boston Red Sox 4-0 on Wednesday, allowing three hits. That's the third game in a row the Rays have allowed exactly three hits; the last time this was done, the team that did it (the 2008 Mets) went on to have four straight such games, from July 8-11, 2008.

The last team before that to accomplish this was the 1981 Dodgers; it took them two months, because they did it in the last two games before and the first game after that year's players' strike.

The Rays won't have that long to wait to try it again; they'll play the Mariners at home on Friday.
