Last night we held our first Mocking the Draft fantasy football draft. League 3 kicked off the fantasy football season and the Omaha Nighthawks selected Adrian Peterson #1 overall. Peterson is widely regarded as the top fantasy option because of his recent production and the Vikings run heavy offense. It appears that the battle for the consensus #1 fantasy pick is between Peterson and Arian Foster, who went #2 overall.
MTD Fantasy Football League 3 Draft Results

The first surprise of the draft came at pick #3 when BCpowder selected Andre Johnson. Johnson is a good fantasy option especially because the league is PPR but #3 overall is a bit high for a wide receiver. The draft participants quickly realized that the quarterback position was going to be very important. The reason for highly valuing quarterbacks was because with 16 teams your options became limited. Once the run of quarterbacks started there was a chance you could be left out in the cold. For example 6 quarterbacks went in the first two rounds leaving the likes of Matt Shaub and Tony Romo for the other 10 teams.
After the break check out my biggest reaches and steals.
Biggest Reach: Josh Freeman, 3rd Round Pick no.37, Moch Speed
- Freeman is a promising young quarterback but that doesn't mean he is going to be a great fantasy quarterback. I still question the young receivers around him plus the fact that Tampa loves to run the football. Good player but could have limited fantasy value. Players left on the Board: Tony Romo, Matt Ryan, and Eli Manning
Biggest Steal: Darren McFadden, 2nd Round Pick no. 17, RunningRandallC
- McFadden had a breakout season in 2010 and hopes to build on that success. He is consistently ranked as a top 10 fantasy player but fell to #17 in this draft. One reason for his drop could be his injury history but if he is healthy McFadden will outperform his draft position.
Most Interesting Pick: Cam Newton, 10th Round Pick no. 159, Don Mega
- With 16 teams it was slim pickings for backup quarterbacks. It could be considered a win if you selected someone that was guaranteed to be a starter. We don’t know if Newton will start but he has a good chance. There is a lot of upside with this selection.
