Ron Artest and the Cheshire Jets have been one of the more interesting sagas to follow this offseason, at least in terms of NBA players looking at overseas options during the NBA lockout. Heck, the man to be known in the future as Metta World Peace might even star in a British soap opera!
Ron Artest, Cheshire Jets Struggling To Reach Contract Agreement
Unfortunately, it seems all that has been put on hold. At least for the time being, the two sides are unable to come to an agreement according to a release posted on the Chester-based team’s website.
Ron and his team were scheduled to fly into Manchester on the 19th of August to meet The Jets, see Chester and work with the club to raise the profile of basketball in the UK. However despite extensive and lengthy discussions between the Jets and Ron’s lawyers, agreement could not be reached by the two organizations over certain aspects of the proposed playing contract. As a result, it has been mutually agreed to delay Ron’s scheduled visit with the intent on both sides to still make the deal.
It sounds like Artest and the Jets will keep working on a deal so all hope is not lost for those hoping the Los Angeles Lakers star would infuse a bit of life into their favorite British soap opera/basketball team, but this is disappointing news for the time being.
