The Arizona Cardinals may be without the services of talented rookie running back Ryan Williams after he was carted off the field with an apparent knee injury on Friday night. As the Cardinals battled the Green Bay Packers, Williams went to the turf after his first carry, staying down with the apparent injury before leaving on a cart. The scene didn't look good: players gathered around Williams as he was attended to, and he left with his face in his hand. Now, it appears he may be lost for the season.
Ryan Williams Injury: Ruptured Patella Tendon Likely, May Cost Rookie The Season
In short-hand, here’s was Arizona Republic reporter Kent Somers tweeted during head coach Ken Whisenhunt’s press conference following the game.
Whiz pretty sure r williams ruptured patella tendon, out for yr
Nothing is official and Williams will still be evaluated, but if true, it's not a good sign for the Cardinals. Williams was expected to see time in the Arizona backfield, taking some of the carries Tim Hightower left behind when he signed with the Washington Redskins. Beanie Wells will likely take the bulk of the carries, serving as a feature back, if Williams is truly lost for the season.
We’ll have more on Williams’ injury as it becomes available. For the latest of Williams and the Cards, head over to SB Nation Arizona and Revenge of the Birds.
