Hanley Ramirez Injury: Marlins Shortstop Hurts Shoulder, Removed From Game

In a Tuesday game against the Mets, Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez raced after a flare to left off the bat of Angel Pagan. Ramirez ran back and made a tremendous diving attempt, but he couldn't make the catch, and to make matters worse, Ramirez injured himself on the play. He immediately grimaced and clutched at his left shoulder while sitting on the ground, and at no point did he move his left arm.

You can see the play here:

Ramirez was obviously removed from the game, and as he walked off with the trainer and Jack McKeon, he did muster something of a little smile. But he was in significant pain, and the whole time his left arm hung there, lifeless.

This is cause for concern on its own, but Ramirez also has a history of shoulder problems that have sidelined him in the past. He was replaced at short by Emilio Bonifacio, and though we're light on details at the moment, a stint on the disabled list certainly doesn't seem out of the question.

Ramirez owns a .709 OPS on the season. Bonifacio handled shortstop when Ramirez was on the DL earlier this year, and if he has to go back, Bonifacio would presumably handle it again.
