The college football rankings are one of the more talked about things at this point of the summer, despite the rankings sometimes being completely off considering the voters haven't watched a single game yet this season. Fans of the Big 12 shouldn't have too much to complain about though considering Oklahoma is on top in the the Associated Press's Preseason Poll -- unless they are fans of the Texas Longhorns, of course.
College Football Rankings 2011: Oklahoma On Top In Preseason AP Poll, Texas Unranked
The Longhorns are not represented in the AP's preseason poll at all for the first time since 1998. For a historical perspective, the top album of that year was the soundtrack to Titanic, the Longhorns were coming off a 4-7 season during Ricky Williams' junior year and Mack Brown was just beginning his first year as the team's head coach.
Aside from the Longhorns and the Sooners, the Big 12 also placed two other team in the preseason poll. The Texas A&M Aggies came in with the eighth-most votes whereas the Missouri Tigers ended up ranked No. 21 in the poll.
Mizzou's high ranking is a bit surprising considering their loss of quarterback Blaine Gabbert to the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars.
