Larry Fitzgerald Will Sign Record Contract Extension With Arizona Cardinals, According To Report

The Arizona Cardinals and Larry Fitzgerald are close to a record-setting contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The wide receiver will reportedly sign an eight-year, $120 million deal with nearly $50 million guaranteed.

Fitzgerald was in the final year of a four-year, $40 million deal he signed with the Cardinals in 2007. His new guaranteed money will be the most given to a non-quarterback in the league. He will also be the highest paid wide receiver, making an average of $15 million a season. Arguably the best receiver in the league, Fitzgerald is just a few days away from turning 28 years old. He doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

With the addition of Kevin Kolb at quarterback, Fitzgerald must have a good feel for the direction of this offense. He would have hit the open market next offseason, but a reported clause in his contract would have prevented the Cardinals from placing the franchise tag on him.
