Following a report back in the beginning of August that Alex Rodriguez was allegedly involved in illegal poker games, the New York Yankees third baseman is scheduled to meet with Major League Baseball on Friday to discuss his involvement, or possibly lack thereof.
Alex Rodriguez To Speak With MLB Investigators About Poker Allegations
Rodriguez will be meeting with MLB investigators in Baltimore, where the Yankees will be playing on Friday night, and then plans to speak to the media at Camden Yards afterwards. Apparently, Rodriguez “can’t wait” to talk to everyone and clear up exactly what’s going on.
The allegations first surfaced in a tabloid article, but according to Major League Baseball, the source of the story didn’t cause them to discredit the allegations right off the bat. In a statement, the MLB office said:
“We take this very seriously and have been investigating this matter since the initial allegation. As part of the investigation, the Commissioner’s Office will interview Mr. Rodriguez.”
And, of course, A-Rod’s publicist had a response.
“The story contains numerous factual inaccuracies and Alex looks forward to cooperating with MLB in their investigation.”
Obviously, Rodriguez, the Yankees, and their fans are hoping this gets cleared up as soon as possible.
