With Hurricane Irene bearing down on South Florida, the Marlins have made a schedule change in their series with the Reds:
Goodnight, Irene
In anticipation of heavy rains dosing the area, Thursday’s game has been pushed up a day. Now, the teams will play a doubleheader on Wednesday to close out their three-game set, which begins on Tuesday.
The single-admission doubleheader will start at 4:10 p.m., with Game Two beginning approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
This will no longer be an issue after the Marlins move into their retractable roof stadium next season. But they may still have to deal with Hurricane Irene later this week -- their next series is in Philadelphia, where rains from the storm could still be happening over the weekend. Games scheduled this weekend in Baltimore, New York and Boston might also be affected by heavy downpours and/or high winds from the storm if it keeps on its anticipated track.
