Yankees Claim Carlos Pena Off Waivers, But Probably Won’t Get Him

Earlier Wednesday, it was reported that Chicago Cubs first baseman Carlos Peña had been claimed off waivers. What was unknown for a while, though, was just who did the claiming. That's where Jon Heyman comes in:

claimed carlos pena

With the best record in the other league, the Yankees had the lowest waiver priority for Peña, but they were awarded the claim anyway. And one figures they might've been looking for some help off the bench, or help at DH. Peña, of course, has plenty of experience playing in the AL East, he's been to the playoffs, and he has tremendous home run power.

However, from Carrie Muskat:

Pena may have been claimed but he’s not going anywhere.

It certainly looks like the Cubs are less interested in dealing Peña away, and more interested in bringing him back in 2012. They might change their mind, but we shouldn’t expect anything to happen, here.
