Red Sox Vs. Rangers: Boston Beats Up On Texas Again

The Boston Red Sox defeated the Texas Rangers, 13-2, behind solid pitching from Josh Beckett and a total team effort at the plate.

The Boston Red Sox put a shellacking on the Texas Rangers once again Wednesday night. For the second-straight game in the team's four-game series, the Red Sox beat up on host-team Texas to the tune of 13 runs on 16 hits in what turned out to be a 13-2 victory for the visitors.

The Boston win, along with the New York Yankees' loss to the Oakland Athletics, means that the Red Sox are now in first place all by themselves in the race for first place in the AL's East division.

It's quite difficult to pinpoint an offensive player to praise for Boston's hit parade as everyone in the lineup was able to claim at least one hit in the line score, but Boston starter Josh Beckett's ability to hold the Rangers to just one run in his six innings on the mound ensured the Red Sox victory.

Still, the Red Sox batters behind Beckett were able to give him solid run support as Jacoby Ellsbury, Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez all hit homeruns while Dustin Pedroia and Marco Scutaro also batted runs across home plate -- the majority at the expense of Rangers' starter Matt Harrison, who surrendered seven runs on 11 hits in five innings pitched.

“If you play a team like that, you’ve got to match their pitching,” Rangers manager Ron Washington told MLB.com. “If you don’t, the game will get away from you, and it got away from us tonight.”

The Rangers and Red Sox will finish their four-game series on Thursday night.
