On getaway day for most teams, there are some afternoon games, and a pair on national TV. All times Eastern.
1 p.m., MLB Network, YES Network, CSN California: Athletics at Yankees. If I keep writing that the A's are bad on the road and the Yankees are good at home, maybe New York will actually win one of the games in this series. Some MLBN viewers will see Tigers/Rays.
2:20 p.m., WGN, SportSouth: Braves at Cubs. The Braves can start thinking about clinching the wild card -- their magic number is 24.
7 p.m., FSN Arizona, MASN: Diamondbacks at Nationals. Arizona's hanging in there, still two games ahead of the Giants. If they do win the NL West (and presuming the wild card is the Braves), they'd draw the Phillies in the first round. And that's not as bad as it might seem; the two clubs split their season series 3-3.
8 p.m., MLB Network, NESN, FSN Southwest: Red Sox at Rangers. The visitors go for the sweep; if they do it, Texas' lead in the AL West would be cut to just two games. Some MLBN viewers will see Pirates/Cardinals.
