The deal is official: designated hitter Jim Thome is going from the Minnesota Twins to the Cleveland Indians for a player to be named later. It looks like Buster Olney got there first. The deal was contingent upon Thome wanting to go to Cleveland, which wasn't a given. It's August, he's settled, and, hey, Cleveland.
Jim Thome Traded To Indians
But he’s accepted the trade, and he’ll be in an Indians’ lineup soon. The only speculation now is who the player to be named later will be. We have our suspicions, but it would be imprudent to jump on that sort of rumor.
Thome played 12 seasons with the Indians, putting up a ridiculous line as a third baseman and a first baseman until leaving for the green free-agent pastures of Philadelphia. He'll take over as the designated hitter for Cleveland, and I'm sure the team will find a nice time-sharing arrangement when Travis Hafner returns from injury.
