Mark Teixeira Sets Switch-Hitting Home Run Record In Yankees’ Win

Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira hit home runs from both sides of the plate on Tuesday night for the twelfth time in his career, breaking a record previously held by Eddie Murray and Chili Davis.

Mark Teixeira only needed seven innings to set a new switch-hitting home run record on Tuesday night, knocking one out of the park from each side of the plate in the New York Yankees' 6-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. It was the 12th time in his career he's hit a homer from both sides in one game, passing Eddie Murray and Chili Davis, who did it 11 times each.

Teixeira hit a two-run homer into the seats as a right-handed hitter in the third inning and then went to the opposite side of the plate for his solo homer in the seventh inning before the game was stopped due to rain.

After the game, Teixeria talked about the record:

“When you can put your name in the record books to something like this -- being a switch-hitter is very tough, and this was a nice night for me,” Teixeira told reporters.
