Regardless of how low his OPS dips, the Seattle Mariners' Ichiro Suzuki will forever be a baseball superhero. A classic comic book trope is that of the over-eager admirer who dresses up as the superhero and tries his best to fight crime. Commonly, the dope in question is ultimately rescued by his idol after a crime-fighting mission gone horribly awry.
Video: ‘Fake Ichiro’ Nearly Robs Mariners Of Extra Bases, Just Like Real Ichiro
On Tuesday night, Mariners celebrity fan ‘Fake Ichiro’ found a new sort of notoriety when he unwittingly interfered with a would-be triple. We have video here.

As it turns out, Ichiro has his own admirer, but there was no one to save Fake Ichiro from himself during Tuesday night's Mariners-Athletics game. Here's video:
Fake Ichiro was sitting just behind the wall in foul territory when he apparently mistook a fair ball for a foul ball. The lapse in judgment temporarily halted batter Dustin Ackley at second with a ground-rule double, robbing him of the triple he easily would have legged out. (All was soon set right, however, as Ackley was later awarded third base. Fake Ichiro spoke with security before ultimately being allowed to return to his seat.)
In fairness to the poor fellow, considering the ball glanced off the glove of Oakland first baseman Conor Jackson and into foul territory, it was an understandable mistake to make.
If comic book lore is any meaningful indicator, Fake Ichiro will suffer a freak industrial accident, turn heel, and plot to destroy the Seattle Mariners. Not sure what’s going to happen once he finds that the team has pretty much already been destroyed by the rest of Major League Baseball. (That was a joke at the expense of the Seattle Mariners.)
