Seven year Zuffa-veteran Mick Swick (14-4) has officially pulled out of a scheduled bout against Erick Silva (12-1) at UFC 134, according to reports released late Thursday. Swick was forced to withdraw after suffering an undisclosed injury during training camp. The UFC released this statement:
Mike Swick Out Of UFC 134 With Injury
Mike Swick's long-awaited comeback to the octagon will have to wait a little longer after he was forced to withdraw from his UFC 134 bout against Erick Silva due to injury.
The news is unfortunate for the 32-year-old welterweight, who was hoping to make his return to the Octagon after a year-and-a-half layoff. A contestant on the inaugural season of the "The Ultimate Fighter", Swick was coming off the first two-fight losing streak of his career after falling to Dan Hardy and Paulo Thiago over a span of four months.
No replacement opponent has been revealed by UFC officials. However, promotion officials ensured that the announcement would be coming shortly.
UFC 134 will be held August 27 at HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiroi, Brazil. The organization's return to the country features a slew of Brazilian fighters, and is headlined by contest between Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami for the UFC middleweight championship.
