Many United States fans were excited to see Timothy Chandler on August 10 when the Americans took on Mexico in a friendly, but they will have to wait to see the German-born right back. Chandler has been removed from the U.S. roster for the friendly after suffering a knee injury in the preseason for his club, Nuremburg. The injury is not serious, but it will keep him from the friendly and head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has called in FC Dallas' Zach Loyd to replace him.

The 21-year-old Chandler has two caps for the U.S., both coming this year after coming on strong for Nuremburg last season. He has become one of the bright, young prospects for the Americans and many U.S. supporters were upset when his club asked him to skip the Gold Cup this summer. Chandler isn't play in the tournament, which came back to haunt the U.S. in the final when Steve Cherundolo was injured and Chandler wasn't an option to replace him. The U.S. would go on to lose the match, 4-2.
With Edgar Castillo, Heath Pearce and Carlos Bocanegra on the roster, Loyd may not see the field against Mexico. He made his debut for the U.S. in January against Chile, but that was without most of the team's top players so this will be his first time with the full U.S. team.
