A scary scene unfolded in Colorado on Friday night as Rockies pitcher Juan Nicasio was hit with a line drive off the bat of Ian Desmond. Nicasio was unable to get a glove up to deflect the incoming ball, taking the brunt of the impact square in the face. Trainers rushed to attend to Nicasio, immobilizing him and taking him off the field on the stretcher.

No word on the extent of Nicasio’s injuries, but the situation appeared to be very serious at the time. The video shows Nicasio going straight to the ground after being hit, and lying motionless on the mound for several moments. However, he did appear to be moving his arms and was responsive as trainers took him off the field, though it’s unknown what, if any, trauma he received from the batted ball.
We’ll be back with more on Nicasio as it becomes available. For more on the Rockies, head over to SB Nation Denver and Purple Row.
