Manchester Untied Vs. Manchester City, 2011 Community Shield: Game Underway

Manchester United kick us off in the 2011 Community Shield at Wembley, which based on the gravitas announcers is clearly the most important thing to have happened to sport in the History of All Time. It takes Sir Alex Ferguson's team twelve seconds to put the ball over the halfway line, and then Michael Carrick promptly drops it straight back to Rio Ferdinand. No mattter, though. The ball comes back along the left, Patrice Evra wins a free kick, and Ashley Young completely wastes it. The more things change, eh?

Three minutes in, and Manchester City's first chance of sustained possession comes when Nani overhits a pass that runs straight to Joe Hart. He then boots the ball straight up the length of pitch to a red shirt. Whoops. Seconds later and Ashley Young wins a corner for United, from which Danny Welbeck eventually tries an overhead kick. it doesn't work particularly well. Bright start for United though.
