Prince Amukamara Expected To Miss Two Months After Surgery

The last first round pick to sign a contract will also be the first rookie to go under the knife from a training camp injury, as Giants CB Prince Amukamara will have surgery to repair the broken foot he suffered Saturday, and the AP is reporting it will take up to two months to recover.

Amukamara said this is the first broken bone he’s ever suffered — I’m guessing he’s not counting fingers because, let’s face it, broken fingers might be the most common football injury — and was frustrated after leaving camp in only his second day of practice:

“It’s just a little bit of adversity that I’m going to have to deal with,” he said. “I’m really down on myself right now. I feel like I let the team and myself down.”

He broke the fifth metatarsal bone in his foot, and will have a pin inserted to stabilize the area. Broken bones typically take six weeks to heal fully, but he’ll likely need a couple weeks of rehab. He’ll no doubt use that time to study the playbook.
