Yankees vs. Red Sox: Gardner’s 7th Inning Homer Gives Yanks 2-1 Lead

Deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the 7th inning, the New York Yankees needed a spark to break through the hold the Boston Red Sox pichers had over them.

Brett Gardner provided said spark with a solo shot to deep right centerfield, making it 2-1 Yankees in the 7th inning.

For most of the evening it’s been a pitcher’s duel, even if the number of pitchers being used is starting to skyrocket.

Boston’s Josh Beckett went six-strong, giving up six hits, one earned run and striking out five before being replaced by Matt Albers, who gave up the homer to Gardner.

New York’s Freddy Garcia went five innings, giving up five hits and one earned run while walking three and striking out one.

Both teams have seven hits on the night while the Yankees have two home runs of the evening. Boston has left 21 runners on base, compared to 13 by the Yankees.
