Terrelle Pryor gets one chance to shine at private workout

With the supplemental draft expected for Aug. 17, it's time for former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor to showcase himself.

According to reports, Pryor has scheduled a private workout on Friday in the Pittsburgh area. First though, Pryor will have to be notified he’s eligible for the draft.

At his private workout, the top thing Pryor will have to show is his pocket passing ability. He needs to show he has proper footwork and technique standing in the pocket. Obviously he should look good because there will be no pressure coming at him. NFL teams will have to be wary of that. Private workouts are structured to make the player (particularly a quarterback) look like a superstar.

It will also be interesting to see if Pryor catches some passes. Although its unlikely his agent Drew Rosenhaus would allow it, that may help Pryor latch on with a team. The New York Jets, for instance, could see Pryor as a replacement for Brad Smith.

As it is, my expectation is that either the Oakland Raiders or (less likely) the Miami Dolphins could take a chance on Pryor.

Pryor was banned from OSU following an NCAA investigation into former head coach Jim Tressel. In three seasons with the Buckeyes, Pryor completed 60.9 percent of his passes for 6,177 yards, 57 touchdowns and 26 interceptions.

The other players in the supplemental draft remain a mystery. Former Georgia running back Caleb King is expected to be in and there is speculation that former North Carolina defensive end Michael McAdoo will also turn to the draft.
