Adam Scott On Steve Williams: Comments ‘Blown Out Of Proportion’

If Adam Scott was upset with his caddie, Steve Williams, stealing his thunder, he isn’t showing it. In the aftermath of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Williams’ comments were picked apart and widely criticized, but Scott has kept relatively quiet. On Tuesday, he spoke up, coming to the defense of his new, and Tiger Woods’ former, caddie.

Scott played down Williams’ comments at a press conference ahead of the PGA Championship, calling the reaction to them overblown. The WGC-Bridgestone champion felt Williams was in the moment, and gave honest answers to the questions asked immediately after the tournament ended.

Scott added, “I certainly don’t think that was his intention to steal my moment at all. But you know, he was asked these questions and he gave his honest answer I assume, and with a lot of things to do with anything related to Tiger Woods, it’s all scrutinized and blown out of proportion a lot of the time.

Scott and Williams talked the incident over and the golfer had nothing but praise for his new caddie on Tuesday. Williams also “apologized” for his comments, calling them over-the-top on Tuesday.

Controversy over, right? Well, not quite. Williams’ comments still don’t sit well with many who disagreed with his “me-first” attitude. Meanwhile Scott is stuck in the middle of what’s become a battle between jilted lovers, with Williams sticking it to Woods at every moment possible, even at the expensive of stealing the glory from the golfer he works for.
