Valiant Public Servant Updates Wild Card Race at Tropicana Field

The Wild Card race is tight as can be between the Red Sox and Rays as the regular season comes to an end. This means one thing: Scoreboard-watching!

Unless you’re a fan at Tropicana Field, where Rays fans have turned to one enterprising peer for live updates. Then it’s whiteboard-watching. SI.com’s Jimmy Traina explains:

“This is incredible. ... fans are relying on a fan w/ dry erase board for updates. Rays are showing Boston score in Trop, but, according to YES broadcast, only every 6 or 7 minutes.”

Hit the jump for video (and mocking announcers).

Really though, this should just be a smartphone commercial. We live in the 21st century, folks. You can get a phone with live scoring updates for $17.99*
