The UNC-Asheville Bulldogs are 20 minutes away from something that few bracketologists thought possible. After the first half of their opening-game against top-seeded Syracuse, the No. 16 Bulldogs lead the Orange by a score of 34-30.
March Madness Scores: Syracuse Trails UNC Asheville, 30-34, At Halftime
Working in the Bulldogs’ favor is their 50 percent field goal rate. The Orange are shooting less than 39 percent from the field. UNC-Asheville has also hit five of their 14 three-point attempts.
Dion Waiters of Syracuse leads all players with 12 points.
Syracuse is without Big East Defensive Player of the Year Fab Melo. Even if the Orange do dig their way out of the deficit, the game and the absence of Melo may loom large as they continue tournament play.
