The Long Beach St. 49ers are giving the New Mexico Lobos a run in the ever-dangerous 5-12 matchup in Portland, trailing by just four points at the half.
2012 NCAA Tournament Score Update: New Mexico Leads Long Beach State At Halftime, 33-29
The 49ers, champions of the Big West, put together a strong first 20 minutes, staying within striking distance to head into the half down 33-29. Long Beach St. had closed the gap to just two, but a Cameron Bairstow bucket right before the buzzer allowed the Lobos to widen their lead to four headed into the break.
T.J. Robinson scored a team-high eight points for Long Beach St. in the first. Casper Ware added seven points, with James Ennis chipping in six.
Demetrius Walker led the Lobos with nine points off the bench. In fact, New Mexico's reserves outscored the starters in the first 20 minutes, 19-14.
