The Iowa State Cyclones tipped off against the Connecticut Huskies as the higher seeded team with a No. 8 seed and went to work on the Huskies as if they were a No 14 seed. The Huskies, a No. 9 seed, fell behind the Cyclones early and by as much as double digits in the first half. Outside of Shabazz Napier, UConn struggled to put points on the board and were dominated in the paint.

Iowa State outrebounded the Huskies by nearly a two-to-one margin in the first half as they took control of the game and just dominated their way to a 42-32 halftime lead. Scott Christopherson leads the Cyclones in scoring in the first half with 11 points while Royce White has picked up eight points and eight rebounds. Chris Allen has also picked up nine points off the bench for Iowa State as they look to maintain their lead in the second half and knock out UConn.
