The North Carolina Tar Heels will try to continue their march to another Final Four Sunday against the pride of Omaha, the Creighton Bluejays, in the Round of 32. Much will be discussed of the matchup between Creighton’s All-America candidate, Doug McDermott, and UNC star Harrison Barnes. Why, you may ask? Well, the two played together in high school in Ames, Iowa, and they’ll likely be guarding each other.

McDermott was instrumental in Creighton’s narrow victory over Alabama Friday, scoring 16 points with 10 rebounds. Though the Bluejays almost fell victim to Alabama’s terrifying defense, McDermott is talented and skilled enough to overcome almost any scheme thrown at him.
Barnes, like McDermott, is long, skilled and the only person capable of stopping him is himself. Lucky for Barnes, he has one of the country’s most talented teams surrounding him. With the ACC’s leading assist man in point guard Kendall Marshall, and the ACC Player of the Year in Tyler Zeller, Barnes has plenty of support to beat his old high school chum. However, the Tar Heels have had some mental slips this year, particularly Barnes, and any of those against Creighton could mean an early exit.
