Melvin Ingram finished out his senior season at South Carolina with a victory over the Nebraska Corn Huskers in the Capital One Bowl, picking up 1.5 sacks to push his season total to double digits. Ingram is a bit of a shorter defensive end at just 6-foot-2, which leads some to wonder if he will get looks as a 3-4 outside linebacker, but at 272 pounds he has the mass to play defensive end with his hand on the ground. In just two seasons as a starter for the Gamecocks, Ingram picked up 19 total sacks.
Melvin Ingram, NFL Draft 2012: Defensive End Hopes To Be A First Round Pick
South Carolina senior defensive end Mark Ingram will be getting ready for the 2012 NFL Draft in hopes of being a first round pick.
Dan Kadar of SB Nation’s Mocking The Draft broke down one of Melvin Ingram’s games prior to the end of the season.
The game was reminiscent to the 2009 Big 12 Championship where Ndamukong Suh almost beat Texas by himself. Ingram finished this game with 11 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. It was such an impressive showing, it would be hard to see Ingram not getting drafted in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Needless to say, the site rankings will have to be re-done to reflect how dominant Ingram has been this season.
