Brandon Weeden Says His Age Is An Advantage In 2012 NFL Draft

The 28-year-old Brandon Weeden sees his age as an advantage over younger quarterbacks in the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft.

Former Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden will be 28 when he enters the 2012 NFL Draft in April, automatically making a veteran by league standards. His age is expected to hurt his draft stock significantly, with pro teams preferring to take their chances on 21-year-olds with potentially longer careers ahead of them. Weeden sees things differently, however, calling his experience an advantage for potential NFL teams.

“I think my age is more of an advantage for me than anything,” Weeden said. “I really do. I haven’t been hit. You look back at the tape, and I wasn’t hit very much. My arm is fresh. I think all the negative stuff that could possibly be there is not there. One advantage I do have is maturity.”

Weeden brought up the many quarterbacks that have gone on to have successful careers well into their 30s.

"Kurt Warner is a perfect example to me," he said. "There's a lot of guys that excelled late into their 30s. My window is smaller, but it's not as small as some are making it out to be."

Based solely on talent, Weeden is among the best quarterbacks not named Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III after throwing for 4,727 yards and 37 touchdowns for the Cowboys last season. He will hope to impress on-hand pro scouts when he takes part in the 2012 Senior Bowl on Saturday.
