Vikings Sound Open To Trading No. 3 Pick

New Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said that he is open to trading the team’s No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft in an interview with the NFL Network.

With Christian Ponder taking the reigns of the offense for the foreseeable future, the Minnesota Vikings will be looking to give him some extra protection and skill talent in the 2012 NFL Draft. Whether that means they will do so with their No. 3 pick remains to be seen. Vikings general manager Rick Spielman told the NFL Network in an interview at the 2012 Senior Bowl that he is open to trading the team's top draft pick.

“It will be, I think, very busy on draft day,” Spielman said. “We’re the third overall pick, so we’ll be looking at all the options. If someone wants to come up and get our pick, we’re going to be more than willing to listen.”

Should the Vikings hang on to their pick, USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil and Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon would likely be available and should be high on their draft board. Either would be a major boost to an offense that ranked 18th in the NFL with 330 total yards of offense per game.
