Alabama’s Mark Barron Will Miss 2012 NFL Combine

Mark Barron has undergone surgery to repair a double hernia and could be out of action until July. He will miss the 2012 NFL Draft Combine set to run from Feb. 22-28 as a result. Barron has been projected as a late first-rounder and is arguably the top safety prospect in this year's class. Though Mocking The Draft recently had him being taken No. 21 overall in this year's draft, there is a chance that the injury could drop his stock.

Barron was an instrumental part of Alabama’s national championship defense this past season, earning consensus All-America honors after recording 66 tackles--four of them for loss--and two interceptions. During Senior Bowl practices he was rumored to have undergone single hernia surgery, a procedure with a 4-6 week recovery window. Bad news turned worse when it was discovered that the procedure was actually double hernia surgery, putting him out eight weeks and limiting his opportunities to wow scouts even further.

Still, even if Barron drops he shouldn’t drop far. His college resume is sterling, and teams are likely still drooling at his size and tackling ability even if he is an injury risk to some extent.
