NFL Draft 2012: Rams Already Talking Trade With Multiple Teams

The Rams have already heard from a number of teams regarding a trade for the No. 2 pick in the draft.

The St. Louis Rams hold the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NFL draft and they've already had discussions with multiple teams about trading out of that spot, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The target would be Robert Griffin III, the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback out of Baylor.

Stanford's Andrew Luck will assuredly go to the Indianapolis Colts with the No. 1 pick. Then, it appears, the Rams can hold an auction for the second overall selection and, depending on who's trading up, the rights to RG3. St. Louis doesn't need a quarterback -- they have Sam Bradford -- so it's believed they're willing to trade down from the second slot.

A number of teams could reasonably move up to the second pick, including the Browns, Redskins, Dolphins or Seahawks. All four of those teams are believed to be in the quarterback market.

The cost of moving up would start with a 2012 first-round pick, and could include a 2013 pick as well. It’s expensive to move up, but with the new collective bargaining agreement and a rookie wage scale now in place, the financial burden for teams at the top of the draft isn’t as bad as it once was. As a result, the thinking is that there will be more movement at the top this year.
