The St. Louis Rams currently hold the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, which seems to be a very valuable commodity because of quarterback Robert Griffin III, who most experts believe will wind up being the second-overall pick. The Rams used the NFL Combine as a chance to get the word out that they're willing to trade out of the second overall pick to the highest bidder.
NFL Draft 2012: Rams Talking Trade, But No Offers Yet
Throughout the combine, the Rams have made no secret of the fact that they are shopping the pick. But if they don't receive an offer they like, they're not going to trade the pick. Simple as that. As one team source said, "It's not like we're going to trade the pick for a seventh-rounder."
The Rams have quite a few needs on their football team on both sides of the football, so looking to pick up as many draft picks as possible is a smart play. The Rams could also simply just use the pick on a player they really like if no one’s willing to pony up something acceptable. As it stands right now, the Rams are preliminarily talking to teams about a trade, but no official offers have been made.
